Carmen Garcia’s path toward becoming a therapist began long before her professional career. Growing up in a Cuban American household, she was deeply shaped by the sacrifices, resilience, and strength of the women in her family. Her mother, the first born in America in her family, often spoke about her dream of earning a college degree before putting those goals aside to raise Carmen and her sister. In many ways, Carmen sees her work as both a personal calling and a reflection of the generations of care and sacrifice that made her journey possible.

Raised around loved ones navigating mental health challenges, Carmen naturally stepped into the role of caretaker, peacemaker, and emotional support system from a young age. Over time, those experiences not only shaped her compassion for others, but also deepened her understanding of how emotional struggles can impact a person’s sense of self, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

Her own experience with individual therapy became life-changing and ultimately solidified her passion for the field. Carmen knows firsthand how transformative therapy can be — how it can help someone move from feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck toward feeling more grounded, empowered, and connected to themselves again.

Carmen brings warmth, honesty, curiosity, and emotional depth into her work with clients. She believes therapy should feel like a collaborative and compassionate space where people can show up fully as themselves without fear of judgment. Her approach is rooted in authenticity, emotional safety, and the belief that healing and meaningful change are possible.

Beyond her clinical work, Carmen is deeply committed to community care and advocacy. She is the founder of a nonprofit organization that has helped hundreds of individuals across the United States access support for rent, food, and free post-surgical care.

In addition to her therapy practice, Carmen serves as an adjunct professor at City College of New York, where she has taught courses including Psychology of Personality, Human Sexual Behavior, Intro to Psychology, and Queer Psychology.

Outside of therapy, Carmen enjoys reading manga, traveling, spending time at the beach, and being with her close friends, partner, and two cats. Originally from Miami and proudly second-generation Cuban American, she carries a little bit of that “305” spirit wherever she goes.
